This is all I can manage to write about Peace Corps so far. Please forgive me, I am so tired! Expect something better, soon!
Peace Corps Staging: One day, lots of luggage, new colleagues, getting-to-know-you's, walk-around money, two beers, ice-breakers, no sleep, late night White House visit, Group Leader
Travel to Country: Very short, turbulence!, popping ears, rushed Spanish, hot as hell, so sleepy, hungry
Orientation to Peace Corps (February 14 - February 17): cute host family, hot days, cold nights, diarrhea chats, scared-straight, travel restrictions, security briefings, lots of food, photos, Spanish placements, Spanish name
Pre-Service Training (First three days): Moved all my stuff, awesome city, new host family, language immersion, HOT!, fireworks all the time, nice room, hot shower, big breakfasts, kinda lonely, Malaria pills, vaccinations, health sessions, Skype with sis, "lideresa de cafe" (LOL)
...and looking forward to a whole lot more!
You will be in a transition fog for a while. Gotta love the ride, though! And just remember, the fish bowl experience will be over soon enough, so hang in there and enjoy the chaos of super excited and nervous Americans in a very closed space. In there are always great friends that will be your rock and someone to laugh with later that truly understands your crazy village life stories.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the words of advice! I am totally trying to enjoy this crazy ride while it lasts. Already, though, I'm starting to feel more at home and more calm with my surroundings. And I've managed to find a really great core group of folks with whom I really seem to be vibing. Still, I can't believe in 5 weeks we repeat this all over again with our new 2-year sites! :D
Deletewow! how exciting! cant wait to hear more. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I can't wait to share more!
DeleteI'm with Ash...can't wait to hear/read more once you get settled. Also, can't wait to see some pics!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I currently don't have a camera, but pics are coming soon! :D
